Reviews of ethics expert reports

Checking examination completeness, the substantiation of the criteria applied and the connection between findings and the materials examined. A written review analysing the contradictions identified.

What we check

  • Whether the examination corresponds to the questions asked and objects supplied.
  • The completeness of the description of the material, criterion applied, context and grounds of interpretation.
  • The reasoning connecting examination results to findings.
  • Internal contradictions, omissions and verifiability of arguments.

What you receive

A written review analysing the report, with reasoned observations and questions for discussion with the expert and lawyer. Where necessary, questions for supplementary or repeat examination are prepared separately.

Documents to attach

The full report with all appendices and photographic tables, questions asked and the appointment document. List any particular objections in your enquiry.

Review cost

from RUB 60,000

The final cost depends on the report and appendix volume and number of questions checked. Price and timing are agreed after the documents are received.

What to check in an ethics expert report's reasoning

In an ethics expert report, identify separately the normative basis, description of the material examined and the reasoning leading to the final assessment. A problem may occur in any of these parts: an irrelevant norm is used, the message is reproduced incompletely or the finding goes beyond the features described.

Checking the basis for assessment

The reviewer establishes whether the criterion used is identified and its connection to the situation explained. If a report cites a professional code, its content, intended addressees and the participant's role under consideration matter. Reference to a general moral principle does not remove the need to explain its application to the particular text.

Checking the connection to the material

  • Can the quoted passage be found in the object supplied?
  • Are the addressee, sequence of remarks and conditions of public presentation preserved?
  • Are the author's assertion, paraphrase of another position and quotation for discussion distinguished?
  • Are material alternative readings apparent from the context considered?
  • Does the answer's degree of certainty fit the information available?

A criticism becomes verifiable when it identifies the report page, passage used, particular problem and its significance for the finding. A general list of disagreements does not explain which examination procedure needs to be repeated or clarified.

A review may produce questions about the grounds for the chosen criterion, completeness of context or substantiation of an interpretation. It does not replace missing materials or turn an ethical assessment of a message into established legal liability or a description of its author's personality.
